It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.
Slim and sleek everyday carry knives like the Coast Portland Founder’s Series Origin have an attractive look but are also incredibly practical. Thinner blades are great when you have delicate cutting tasks to accomplish, and they can also fit into smaller areas when needed. Whether you’re opening letters and boxes or cutting rough material with these knives, they will serve you well. These knives are also less bulky for your pockets, letting you do more with other EDC essentials.
In particular, the Founder’s Series Origin sports a 3.5” drop point dagger-style blade. It features 9Cr18MoV stainless steel, and it’s easily deployed with a single hand thanks to its flipper tab opening. The stainless steel handle integrates a secure frame lock, and there’s a two-position reversible pocket clip for tip-up carry in either your left or right-handed pockets. It’s available in three different colorways, from a glass-bead finished stainless steel, an all-black titanium-nitride coated version, and a combination of the two for improved wear resistance.
What we like: The Origin is an affordable, slim, compact, and handy EDC folding knife, and Coast Portland stands by its design with its lifetime warranty.
What to watch out for: The reversible pocket clip is a nice touch, but it is not a deep-carry clip, and it will ride a bit higher in your pockets than some other EDC blades.
Final verdict: The Coast Founder’s Series Origin knife is an excellent choice with a svelte, gentlemanly drop point blade to help you get the job done.
