It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.
Today we’re covering a surprise release from GORUCK, a new model quite unlike the boxier silhouette of their flagship models. The 21L M22 is a modern take on the M1945 knapsack from WWII, a single cavity bag designed to protect and quickly access field essentials. This modern take incorporates a top-loader style that combines a drawstring cinch and a top lid that secures via g-hooks.
It also comes with a “greatest hits” list of features of modern GORUCK bags, including 500D CORDURA construction with a 210D back panel, a laptop compartment for up to 14″ machines, and in a rare appearance for the brand, a built-in side water bottle pocket.
What we like: A fresh and unexpected new design from GORUCK, great callbacks to the original military bag while bringing very desirable modern features to the table. Also a very reasonable price for a GORUCK bag of this size.
What to watch out for: Top-loader bags with a drawstring cinch may not be for everyone, and neither are g-hook closures (which seem to be prime spots for modding opportunities).
Final verdict: It’s always nice seeing new designs and ideas from evergreen EDC brands, so the M22 is definitely worth considering as an EDC pack.
